Electronic Reciprocity Transfer System (ERTS)

Before you work in another jurisdiction, please consider this important issue.  The International Office of the IBEW has implemented a new Reciprocity System for pension money to be transferred via the internet.  This system is called, Electronic Reciprocity Transfer System (ERTS).  This new procedure will affect all of our members that are referred from our Book I if they work outside of our jurisdiction and all members working off Book II in other locals.  It is important that each member be registered for your pension money to be transferred to our home fund.

If you work for a local contractor you may think this may not affect you.  However, if your contractor would take a job in another jurisdiction and you work there for them, your hours/benefits would be reported to that particular local.

When working in another jurisdiction having your pension money sent home is called reciprocity.  Although another local union office can NOT turn you down to register in their office, it would benefit you to register here at our Local union’s office.

To expedite the process, please call prior to coming by the hall so that Kay can give you her undivided attention when registering you personally.  Once registered, you will be sent a personal password to access your account to verify information.  Call today and ask for Kay to make your appointment to register in the system.   Should you have any questions about this system she will be happy to assist you.

CREDIT UNION:

Should you not be participating in the credit union, here is how you can sign up to have money taken from your paycheck and put into a savings account.  Contact your contractor and/or Kay at the hall to give you a form to fill out.  You can save a percentage or a flat amount per week.  This is sent to the credit union in Indianapolis.

SELF-CONTRIBUTIONS TO PENSION:

Should you want to make a self-contribution into your pension fund, this contribution should be made between the dates of March 1, and April 30, for your tax deadline.  The amount that you may place in your funds is not to exceed ten percent (10%) of your gross income.  Send a letter to the hall, stating the amount to be placed in your fund along with your check in that amount.  The check should be made out to:  American United Life Insurance.  Kay will make a copy of your letter and check for our files and will mail you a copy as well.  The money will be forwarded onto AUL to be placed in your account.  Questions, give Bill and/or Kay a shout!
